GPS has hit the construction world in a big way. The technology is contributing to the ultimate construction goal of lower costs, higher production, and greater accuracy.

Thank you for this article. I am responsible for the design and deployment of the FDOT statewide GPS reference network. Here I will have 40-60 continuously operating GPS stations covering the state. One of my pet projects will be to test the feasibility of broadcasting RTK from my RS's to heavy machinery involved in the road building process. I am firmly convinced that he power of this infrastructre could revolutionize the road consruction industry. Why stake-out when a dozier/grader can drive the "alignment" guided by cm level GPS? Unfortunately, most are afraid to really push the fringe.
