Responses from our article "Pushing the Envelope on Waste Reduction and Recovery"

I'm going to kick things off on this by saying that I think we're witnessing major shift in the public's view of what's important...one in which response to internal and external terrorist threats will take precedence over safety issues arising from environmental concerns.

What this means to those of us in solid waste is that (1) we are going to have to be more efficient in our operations than ever before, even looking for ways to dovetail our responsibilities in with other municipal activities.

Are we seeing a backlash to environmental programs--for instance recycling? Perhaps. But maybe this is precisely what we need to move to the next level and explore new and perhaps more cost-effective avenues for diversion.
