Recycler of the Year Award 2008 – Miriam Zimms -- Recycle Florida Today
Tampa, FL: Recycle Florida Today (RFT), Florida’s statewide recycling association and trade group, has selected Miriam Zimms of Kessler Consulting, Inc. as 2008 Recycler of the Year. The award was presented during the RFT Annual Conference and Exhibition in St. Pete Beach, Florida on Tuesday, June 3, 2008. Miriam was honored for her contribution over the years to the organization, and her involvement since 1992 in waste reduction, recycling, and green programs in the industry both in the private and public sector.
Miriam is a nationally recognized leader in the solid waste and recycling industry. She has over 16 years in the environmental field with a focus in materials and resource management and specializes in innovative program development, management, integration, and execution. Recently, Miriam assisted the City of Tallahassee with receiving the Green City Silver designation from the FL Green Building Coalition and LEED® Silver certification for its Solid Waste Services Administration Building from the U.S. Green Building Council. Locally, Miriam has worked with Hillsborough County to develop and hold two Green Seminars for property managers in the public and private sector; and with the City of Tampa to Green the Gasparilla Extravaganza and PirateFest parades, and the Gasparilla Distance Classic road race, the St. Pete Times Forum, the Tampa Convention Center, and Raymond James Stadium.
Over the course of her career, she has worked to “Green” buildings/companies and cities/counties throughout Florida. Prior to joining Kessler Consulting, Miriam worked for Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) and the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County. She is a US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional. Miriam is a graduate of Stetson University and Apopka High School.
