Vortechnics Prevails in Patent Lawsuit Filed by Stormceptor

SCARBOROUGH, Maine - Vortechnics, the leading provider in stormwater treatment, today announced that Stormceptor Corporation has dismissed its lawsuit against Vortechnics regarding claims of patent infringement relating to the VortSentry® and VortCaptureTM hydrodynamic separation products.

Stormceptor has dismissed its claims of infringement with prejudice and has filed with the court a binding covenant not to assert the patents in issue in the future against either the VortSentry® or VortCaptureTM product lines. Vortechnics was not forced to take a license, alter its current products or pay any compensation to Stormceptor to secure this result. In addition, Vortechnics retains the future right to challenge the validity of Stormceptor patents should the need arise.

"We believe the outcome of this case affirms both the uniqueness and effectiveness of our VortSentry® and VortCaptureTM products," said David Miley, CEO of Vortechnics. "Vortechnics has a long history in the stormwater industry and has built its reputation on the cornerstones of integrity and customer service. As such, we have maintained throughout the life of this lawsuit that our designs in hydrodynamic separation are exclusively ours and the specific innovative technologies used in their operation are available only through Vortechnics."

The VortSentry® product is an effective alternative in hydrodynamic separation that utilizes a combination of vortex motion and flow controls to remove sediment, oil and debris from contaminated stormwater runoff. The VortCaptureTM product is a trash and debris solution that utilizes both hydrodynamic and screening technologies to remove contaminated particles in stormwater at least five millimeters in size. Both products are used to clean stormwater that runs off parking lots, roads and other impervious surfaces. If not removed from urban runoff, the pollutants can accumulate in surface waters, damaging ecosystems and diminishing habitats for native plant, fish and bird species.
